Harvey FAQs

 

1.      What day do classes begin?

a.      Wednesday, September 6.

b.      Take 2 late start classes start Monday, September 11.

 

2.      Can I completely withdraw from classes at this time?

a.      Please contact student services on your campus. Student services is available Tuesday, September 5 from 1 – 8 p.m.  If you cannot make it to the campuses, please call 281-998-6150.  Please be advised that wait time could be extensive due to call volume.

 

3.      When will I receive my financial aid?

a.      June 30 was the priority processing deadline for Financial Aid for the Fall semester. This means that any financial aid applications and necessary paperwork must have been received by San Jac to guarantee a financial aid award by Fall payment deadlines. If you submitted documents after the deadline or you need to submit documents, your financial aid will not arrive on time to cover your tuition.  We suggest that you consider an IPP (Installment Payment Plan). 

b.      If your Financial Aid is processed and authorized, the aid will be applied to your account before your payment is due.  Please check your (SOS) Financial Aid account for updates.

c.      Financial Aid disbursements or refunds will be processed Friday, September 8.

d.      All students will receive their financial aid in three “multiple payments” scheduled during the semester.  The multiple payments schedule is as follows.

                                                    i.     Grants (50-25-25):

1.      9/8/2017 (was 9/18/2017)

2.      On or before 10/30/2017 

3.      On or before 11/20/2017

                                                   ii.     Loans (34-33-33):

1.      9/8/2017 (was 9/19/2017)

2.      On or before 10/30/2017

3.      On or before 11/20/2017

                                                  iii.     New Borrowers:

1.      9/27/2017

2.      On or before 10/30/2017 

3.      On or before 11/20/2017

                                                 iv.     Note: These dates are intended for classes that start the first week of the semester. The first disbursements for other class start dates will take place when those classes start. Payments for all classes will coordinate with 16-week classes disbursement dates.   

 

4.      What would happen to my financial aid if I withdraw?

a.      If payments have not been disbursed to your account, we will cancel all aid. You will just need to return any books and supplies you may have purchased to the Bookstore for a full refund to avoid incurring a debt.

b.      If payments have been disbursed to your account, please return the funds to avoid incurring a debt. Also, you will need to return any books and supplies you may have purchased to the Bookstore for a full refund to avoid incurring a debt.

 

5.      What are the hours of operation in the coming weeks?

a.      Monday, September 4 – Closed due to Labor Day Holiday

b.      Tuesday, September 5 – Offices will be open for students from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Employees report for normal business hours.

c.      Wednesday, September 6 – Classes begin. Offices open normal business hours - typically 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

d.      Beginning Thursday, September 7 – Normal business hours

 

6.      How long will the registration be extended for classes that start on September 6th?

a.      Online registration has been open.

b.      Online registration will still be open along with in-person registration Tuesday, September 5.

c.      No late registration for courses begins Wednesday, September 6.

d.      Registration for courses that have not started yet will be extended until Sunday, September 10.

e.      Registration for the Take 2 late start is open until Sunday, September 10.

 

7.      I cannot physically get to San Jacinto College to drop my classes.  What can I do?

a.      Please call the contact center at 281-998-6150 and they will transfer you to appropriate team members who can help. Please be advised that there could be a long wait time due to high call volume.

 

8.      I do not have a computer anymore to drop my classes.  What can I do?

a.      First time students should meet with an Admissions Advisor.  Continuing students should meet with an Educational Planner. Student services is available Tuesday, September 5 from 1 – 8 p.m.

b.      If there are extenuating circumstances, you can complete this over the phone.  Please call the contact center at 281-998-6150 and they will transfer you to appropriate team members who can help. Please be advised that there could be a long wait time due to high call volume.

 

9.      I have a hold on my account that prevents registration or I cannot drop my classes online. What can I do?

a.      First time students should meet with an Admissions Advisor.  Continuing students should meet with and Educational Planner. Student services is available Tuesday, September 5 from 1 – 8 p.m.

b.      If there are extenuating circumstances, you can complete this over the phone.  Please call the contact center at 281-998-6150 and they will transfer you to appropriate team members who can help. Please be advised that there could be a long wait time due to high call volume.

 

10.   I did not pay for my classes prior to Friday, August 25. Am I still registered?

a.      You must pay for your courses or be on an installment payment plan (IPP) by midnight on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.  Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, you will be dropped from courses where payment has not been received. 

 

11.   I want to start my classes but I may need to miss additional classes due to the flooding or child care issues.  What can I do?

a.      Students should work with their individual faculty members on a plan to address missed class time. Please contact your faculty member and work this out BEFORE missing classes.

 

12.   I couldn’t request the necessary documents for admissions because the College was closed due to the floods.  What can I do?

a.      Please come in to either the Educational Planning Counseling and Completion (EPCC) office or the Admissions office for assistance. These offices are open and available Tuesday, September 5 from 1 – 8 p.m. You may also call the contact center at 281-998-6150 and they will transfer you to appropriate team members who can help. Please be advised that there could be a long wait time due to high call volume.

 

13.   I couldn’t request the necessary documents for financial aid because the College was closed due to the floods.  What can I do?

a.      Please come in to your campus financial aid office for assistance. Financial Aid offices are open and available Tuesday, September 5 from 1 – 8 p.m. You may also call the contact center at 281-998-6150 and they will transfer you to appropriate team members who can help. Please be advised that there could be a long wait time due to high call volume.

 

14.   Have the dates for repayment of the Installment Payment Plan (IPP) changed?

a.      Yes.  The new IPP payment schedule is:

                                                    i.     1st Payment - Monday, October 2

                                                   ii.     2nd Payment - Monday, October 30

                                                  iii.     Final Payment - Monday, November 27

 

15.   I was told I was awarded a scholarship. Is it on my account yet?

a.      It should be added to your student account. If it is not, it will be moved over by September 8. You can view your student account through SOS.

 

16.   Can I get to the College?

a.      Yes, all San Jacinto College campuses are accessible.

b.      If you are concerned about the major freeways, please visit Houston Transtar website for a map of traffic conditions.

c.      If you have a problem with arriving for a specific course, please contact the faculty member teaching that course.  Your course syllabus with your faculty member’s email address is in Blackboard.

 

17.   How do I know if my classes have been cancelled?

a.      If your class has been cancelled, it will show up in your registration in SOS.

b.      You should receive an email regarding this as well.

 

18.   Are the childcare centers open?  Are they accepting additional students?

a.      The childcare centers will be open for currently enrolled children beginning Wednesday, September 6.

b.      At this time the children’s centers are full and cannot accept new enrollments.

 

19.   Can I bring my child with me to class since the ISD is closed?

a.      No, children should not be brought with you to class.

b.      Please also note that children should not be left unattended on the campus.

c.      If you have a problem with arriving for a specific course, please contact the faculty member teaching that course.  Your course syllabus with your faculty member’s email address is in Blackboard.

 

20.   How will we make up the missed class time?

a.      Each faculty member is working on a specific plan for their course to meet the learning outcomes.  

b.      Please check Blackboard to see the status of your course and ask questions of your faculty member.

 

21.   Is there help for students who have lost everything?

a.      San Jacinto College is developing a student and employee emergency relief fund.

b.      Distribution of funds will be contingent upon donations received.

c.      Once the application procedure is developed, we will be issuing communication. Please check your College email as that is how the College will communicate this information.

 

22.   What other resources are available for students?

a.      There are links on the San Jacinto College website with this information.

23.   When will the fall semester end? 

a.      The Fall semester will end according to the scheduled date of December 15, 2017.

 

24.   I need to return my textbook and lost my receipt – what do I do?

a.      If you purchased your textbooks through Barnes & Noble at a campus bookstore, please contact the bookstore and work with the staff.

 

25.   When do the Barnes & Noble bookstores open?

a.      Barnes & Noble will be open to students as follows:

                                                    i.     Tuesday and Wednesday - 7:45 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.

                                                   ii.     Thursday 7:45 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

                                                  iii.     Friday 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

                                                  iv.     Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

 

26.   My textbooks were destroyed, what do I do?

a.      Faculty members have textbooks available on reserve in the library on each campus for short-term assistance.

 

27.   What happens if I need to miss class to attend to personal business? 

a.      Students should work with their individual faculty members on a plan to address missed class time. Please contact your faculty member and work this out BEFORE missing classes.

 

28.   Is the application timeframe for the Nursing program extended? 

a.      We have communicated with the Board of Nursing and are working with our clinical sites.  We are able to extend the application deadline and please contact the nursing program on Tuesday for more information.

 

29.   When do Dual Credit students need to return to class?

a.      Dual Credit students should contact their school districts for information about attending college courses.  

b.      If you cannot get a response on the district's website or by phone, you can call the dual credit offices on your respective campus:
