Robotics, Ocean Microgravity Explorers (ROME) Challenge
Middle School STEM Teachers
The ROME Challenge allows the middle school students to develop an understanding of microgravity as demonstrated on the International Space Station by using “underwater robotic technology.” With the aid of a San Jacinto College Honors “coach”, the students will have a hands-on experience to build and operate an underwater robot. Additional information.
Water-Bots Teacher Workshop
Grade 5-8 Teachers
The Aerospace Academy offers a two part underwater robotics workshop including: 12 professional development contact hours, hands on soldering and robotics instruction, and the ability to take back to your classroom the electronics that you create during the workshop. The curriculum will align with science and math TEKS. We offer site-based training within the Houston Metroplex area. Additional information.
Lost in Space!
In partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission, San Jacinto College Aerospace Academy is offering a FREE summer camp for students ages 14-18 years old. Students must be Texas residents, be able to provide a birth certificate and a valid photo ID. Camp experience will include geocaching, GPS tracking and mapping of the International Space Station, basic electronics instruction, tours of NASA-JSC, professional speakers and much more! Space Settlement Design Competition (SSDC)
High School Students (Grades 10-12)
Space Settlement Design Competition gives high school students from Texas and Iowa a unique opportunity to be engaged in an exciting industry simulation game that emulates the experience of working as a member of an aerospace company team. Students will work in four different teams to develop, design and present a proposal based on the packet presented to them on the first day. This activity will increase the students’ knowledge of and utilize skills in space science, physics, math, chemistry, environmental science, biology, computer science, writing, speaking, art, and group presentation. Additional information.
Water-Bots Summer Camps
The Aerospace Academy is offering several underwater robotic camps this summer. Beginner Camps offer students the opportunity to learn the basics in electronics, soldering, and robotic construction. No prior robotic experience is required.
Intermediate Camps are targeted to those students who have prior experience in electronics, soldering, and robotic construction through school programs or previous Aerospace Academy camps.
In addition, all camps will offer tours at NASA-JSC, professional speakers, and much more. Additional information.
