Maritime Program

For the Professional Mariner

The San Jacinto College Maritime Program, just outside of Houston, Texas offers United States Coast Guard (USCG) approved and internationally recognized STCW (Standards for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) maritime training and deck level coursework for all professional mariners from the entry level deckhand on an inland towboat to Unlimited Tonnage Masters on the world’s largest ships and everything in between. Engineering courses are available from engine room fundamentals to QMED (Qualified Member of the Engineering Department), DDE (Designated Duty engineer), to Chief Engineer.

Our staff consists of USCG Approved Ship Masters, Chief Engineers, former US Navy, Merchant Marine Officers and skilled technicians with more than a century of combined experience who make the learning experience at San Jac Maritime both effective and enjoyable.  When our new, waterfront, multiple simulator Maritime Education Complex is complete, a total of over 80 USCG and STCW approved courses are planned.

Associate’s Degree in Maritime Technology

Launched in the fall semester of 2012 and at the request of local industry for a higher quality, better educated, more well-rounded entry level professional mariner, San Jacinto College is now offering an Associate's Degree in Maritime Technology which will combine USCG and STCW approved maritime training with the college level academics required of a two year college degree. Our goal is to provide new mariners to the industry with, practiced knowledge in the areas of math, science and English that most closely relate to their maritime career path.
