Grant Funding
For corporate partners, the San Jacinto College Maritime Program has been making good use of the Texas Workforce Commission's Skills Development Fund Grant. Since 2010 the San Jacinto Maritime Program and 16 corporate partners have been awarded almost $1,000,000 in grant funding for USCG and STCW approved training.
This grant is designed to assist Texas based companies hire and train new workforce as well as upgrade the skills and abilities of current employees. Whether hiring new deckhands or upgrading a USCG towing or Master's license, most of our USCG approved maritime courses are already approved.
Companies which have participated range from 3 boat, family owned towboat operations to a locally based global maritime company with over 5000 crew. No company is too small or too large.
The application process is relatively simple and can provide for all of their USCG approved training for the entire company for a period of one year.
For individuals, the possibility exists to qualify for U.S. Veteran's or the State of Texas Hazelwood Act funding.
Scholarships
Scholarships for individuals may be available on a competitive basis generously supported by industry or corporate partners.
Once our Associates of Applied Science Maritime degree program begins in the Fall of 2012, additional financial aid and scholarships may be available for those maritime courses included in that program.
