Tools for Student Success

San Jacinto College offers various resources to help students achieve success in the classroom and beyond.  Our goal is to provide support to help students reach their full academic potential as lifelong learners.

 

San Jacinto College Catalog-The catalog contains information on admission, tuition and fees, financial aid, degree plans, course descriptions, graduation requirements, and more.

 

Student Handbook-The Student Handbook contains detailed information on student services and student life. The Student Handbook also includes policies of the college such as plagiarism, traffic rules and regulations, and maintenance of student records.

 

My San Jac GPS- My San Jac GPS is a Web-based application allowing students to track their academic progress towards degree completion, plan class schedules for future semesters, apply transfer credit and/or coursework to meet program requirements, and construct “What-if” scenarios when considering program changes. The system is designed to aid and facilitate academic advising, but is not intended to replace face-to-face advising sessions. My San Jac GPS is available to all SJC credit students. To access the system, students should log into their S.O.S account.

 

Student Success Center- The Student Success Center conducts different types of tutoring for various subjects such as Math, English, Sciences and many more for FREE!  In order to make use of the S.S.C. and any of its resources, you will need your student identification number or student ID. The S.S.C. is free for students who attend any San Jacinto College campus.

 

Math Lab- Math Lab provides free tutoring in all math courses offered at San Jacinto College, from Pre-Algebra to Differential Equations. Tutors will share knowledge and learning strategies with students. Since a tutor's job is to supplement instruction, students can expect tutors to explain concepts behind problems, ask questions, and make suggestions. Math Lab employees can also assist in setting up MyMathLab student accounts. Since the Library offers computers, laptops for checkout, and free Wi-Fi, students can also receive assistance with MyMathLab homework.

 

Blackboard- Assignments, grades, resources, study groups, Blackboard is the direct link between you and your instructors.  Open a web browser (e.g. Microsoft Internet Explorer) and go to the web address: http://www.sjcd.edu. Click on the My San Jac link and then click the Blackboard link. You can also access Blackboard directly at SanJacinto.blackboard.com.

 

Smart Thinking – Provides free tutoring access any time, day or night. For most subjects, you can interact with a live tutor, schedule a session for a future date and time, submit your writing for any class to the Online Writing Lab, or simply submit a question and get a prompt reply.

To access SmarThinking, you will need to log in to your Blackboard account. From the main page, click the SmarThinking link in the Tools table on the left side of the page. Be sure your pop-up blockers are disabled.

 

Atomic Learning – Student can access instructional videos in Blackboard San Jacinto College Atomic Learning online, web-based video library. This resource provides all San Jac employees and students on-demand access to thousands of short, easy-to-understand tutorial movies on more than 110 applications students use every day.  The videos may be used as a resource to support classroom learning or to facilitate your own personal learning. Accessing the Atomic Learning video library outside of this lesson takes place from the Bb Welcome page under the Tools menu.

 

Alert Me –SJC AlertMe provides San Jacinto College with another communication tool to keep students, faculty, staff, and the community informed during threatening situations and weather-related closings. In order to receive email, voice, and text messages, you must provide your current, up-to-date, personal contact information. San Jacinto College current students, faculty, and staff should do this through S.O.S.

 

Focus 2- Focus 2 is a self-paced career guidance tool designed to help you select the right major, clarify your career goals, and provide you with valuable occupation information. 

 

Library (Ask a Librarian)-This is a resource for students, faculty, and staff to submit a query by completing an online form. A response will be made within forty-eight hours. Queries are accepted for factual information and for guidance in locating sources of information relevant to college assignments and activities. Individuals working on projects with complex needs are urged to visit one of the libraries in person or to telephone for assistance.
